Trained in both Medicine and Dentistry, Dr. Amato is a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon, an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and a Pediatric Craniofacial Surgeon. Unlike many Plastic Surgeons who operate on various areas of the body, Dr. Amato has elected to dedicate his practice exclusively to surgery of the face. Dr. Amato has trained at many of the best hospitals in the country including: Columbia Presbyterian, Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Georgetown Hospital, and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He was selected above all other candidates in the country by Dr. Jeffrey Posnick, a world leader in facial surgery, to be the prestigious Posnick Craniomaxillofacial Surgery Fellow for 1 year. Dr. Amato has lectured locally and nationally on many aspects of facial surgery. He has Co-Authored book chapters with Dr. Posnick on Craniofacial Dysostosis Syndromes and Treacher Collins Syndrome. Dr. Amato is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, a Clinical Professor of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at The University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey, a member of the Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Maxillofacial Surgery Departments at St. Barnabas Medical Center, a member of the craniofacial surgery team at St. Barnabas Medical Center, a resident in the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, a member of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, a member of The American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association, and a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners.

The founding surgeon of the Metropolitan Craniofacial Center team, Dr. Cyrus J. Amato received his dental degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He then received his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Harlem Hospital in New York, NY. Following his residency, Dr. Amato traveled to Europe to train under Dr. Hugo Obwegeser, the pioneer in Orthognathic Jaw Reconstrucitve Surgery.

Over the subsequent decade, Dr. Amato became one of the pioneers in orthognathic surgery in the New York metropolitan area. In addition, he has been a member of the Regional Craniofacial Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center for over thirty years and served as its’ Medical Director from 1989-1992. Dr. Amato has been the Head of Maxillofacial Surgery at the Regional Craniofacial Center for the past twenty years and currently holds the position of Medical Coordinator.

Academically, Dr. Amato has served at different times as the Head of Orthognathic Surgical Training at all three of New Jerseys Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training Programs as well as the Plastic Surgery program at St. Barnabas Medical Center. He is currently a clinical professor at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He has also served as the president of the NJ Dental Society and the president of the State of New Jersey Regional Craniofacial Centers.

Dr. Amato served as Chairman of Dentistry at Saint Barnabas Medical Center for over 20 years and is now the president of Amato Craniofacial Engineering (ACE), a private company developed by Dr. Amato dedicated to the development of custom implants and devices for use in facial surgery. The company is the only one of its kind and utilizes the expertise of Maxillofacial Surgeons, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons, Maxillofacial Prosthodontists and maxillofacial laboratory technicians to produce state of the art custom devices for use in facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, Dr. Downey possesses special expertise in the diseases of the ear, dizziness, tinnitus, and hearing related disorders.
She has authored articles on subjects including Tinnitus, Cochlear Implantation in Malformed Cochleas, and Lesions of the Internal Auditory Canal. The last two subjects she also presented to The American Neurotologic Society. Dr. Downey's other peer presentations have included "Clinical Evidence of Direct HIV Cochleotoxicity" as well as Anosmia in Chronic Sinusitis."
She is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American Academy of Facial Plastic Surgeons, the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Allergy, and Women in Otolaryngology.

Dr. Downey received her M.D. from The New York University School of Medicine and completed her Otolaryngology residency at New York University Medical Center, where she also completed a Fellowship in Otology/Neurotology
Dr. Reynaldo Paraiso D.O.

Dr Paraiso is a physician trained in Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery. He completed his training from the ENT/Facial Plastic Surgery Program in NYCOM/St Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ. He earned his medical degree form UMDNJ/SOM in Stratford, NJ and his bachelor's degreee from Rutgers College in New Brunswick, NJ.

Dr Paraiso treats a variety of ear, nose and throat disorders in adult and pediatric patients. He trained in both surgical and non surgical approaches to managing sleep apnea and snoring disorders. From creating oral guards, inserting Pillar implants, to genioglossal and hyoid suspension techniques, Dr Paraiso can manage different ranges of sleep disorders. He also has expertise in treating patients with diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses. Using minimally invasive endoscopic sinus surgery, as well as balloon sinuplasty, he can help restore normal sinus drainage and function, with the principle of preserving normal anatomy and mucosal tissue.
He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, American College of Osteopathic Otolaryngology, American Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery and NJ Osteopathic Physicans and Surgeons. He also serves as an instructor to Otolaryngology/Facial Plastic Surgery Residents at St Barnabas Medical Center.

Dr. Laura Amato graduated from UMDNJ dental school. She then completed a comprehensive general dentistry residency at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ, followed by three additional years of advanced training at the Manhattan VA medical center in the specialty of Prosthodontics. Dr. Amato completed her formal dental studies at Columbia University in NYC, obtaining additional subspecialty in Maxillofacial Prosthetics.

Dr. Amato has received 5 years of formal training beyond the general dentistry degree. She has shared her knowledge having held staff appointments at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, along with teaching appointments at both the NYU and Mount Sinai dental residency programs. Dr. Amato is one of a few dentists in the United States which have acquired this level of training and expertise.

Dr. Leonard Marotta graduated from the Kerpel school of Dental Technology in New York City. Dr. Marotts continued his training through graduate studies at Farleigh Dickenson University, where he focused on Gnathology and SubPeriosteal, Blade and Staple implants. He earned his degree in engineering from Farmingdale State College, State University of New York. He has a PhD from L.M.U. Leeds Metropolitan University in Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Marotta earned his CDT in four categories: Ceramics, Crown and Bridge, Partials, and Dentures. Lenny is one of the founding members of the Master of Dental Technology, ASMDT, program at NYU. He is a Professor in Science and Technology Programs, School of Engineering Technology, at Farmingdale State College, State University of New York.
Dr. Marotta is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Implant Dentistry, Restorative and Prosthodontic Science, and the department of Biomaterials and Biomimetics at New York University College of Dentistry.
Dr. Marotta studied with the first graduating class of restorative dentists and surgeons in the Branemark system from the University of Toronto in 1984.
Dr. Marotta is the owner of Marotta Dental Studio and MDS Cranial Facial Engineering, which specializes in the fabrication of titanium medical and dental implant prosthetics.

President of Biomedical Modeling Inc. (BMI), an anatomical engineering company in Boston, MA. BMI provides anatomical modeling services for surgeons, hospitals, dentists, medical device designers and artists including additive fabrication (SLA, PolyJet, etc.), CAD, and laser scanning. We are a SolidWorks Solutions Partner for BioCAD Services. BMI is famous for two cases: the separation of conjoined twins from Guatemala at UCLA by Dr. Henry Kawamoto and the reconstruction of King Tutankhamun’s face from the CT scan of hismummy. Prior to joining BMI, I was Chief Scientific Officer of Angio-Oncology Sciences Inc. developing vascular approaches to tumor prognosis and therapy. Before that I was a co-founder and Director of the GraftArtery Program at Organogenesis Inc., a tissue engineering company, which grew in part out of my postdoc at MIT. I have an SB in mathematics and SM in physics, both from the University of Chicago, and a PhD in Neurobiology from Harvard University.
